Reflections on OST Composing Jam 7
Reflections For OST Comp Jam 7:
This was my very first jam - After getting a look at the theme, I had set out to focus on five pieces of music to tell the essential story and fit the imaginary game - and to me that means:
- Loopable (as best as possible).
- Confined to 4 tracks.
- Basic game music with powerful harmony.
- A single VST that would deliver consistency in sound across all pieces - I chose Sytrus and succeeded in that commitment.
Sytrus is very powerful, but it had a few weaknesses during the jam - I honestly think I overcame a lot of them. I'm happy that I was able to go from RUINED to SAVED a lot of the time. I think the key is experimenting and playing.
I haven't felt the rush of productive Muse in a long time. My education isn't in music, it's Engineering and Applied Science. I used to think my music was very mechanical and undeveloped - Maybe that's true. But when I think of all the music I lost and listen to the music I make now - I'm operating within my own limits and making them work. I know I've improved, and I wish to keep improving.
I'm glad I have developed my own processes this well, though. I would definitely do this kind of jam again and use the same process to get it done. Musically, I'm untrained. Technically, I'm still learning. I've worked a lot on the second part since getting back into music.
I hope people like like my stuff and are interested in more.
