Development Report - End of Spring 2025

I seem to have forgotten about a winter update for this game on Itch. There is one on Patreon, though. My bad.

Winter and Spring have been harrowing, and real life continues to be difficult. A lot of my interest, motivation, and focus have been killed, but the last couple of weeks I've been clawing my way back upright to keep trying.

Sonata's artwork has brought a lot of  key characters to life, but I am sad to admit I will need to start over. I will use what I have, but if anyone out there believes they have what it takes to deliver a consistent style and huge mass to the game, I am open to discussing Revenue Share up to the cost of artwork. I would also be willing to accept art donations. I am out of money, though, so I'm afraid I'm stuck on the art.

Behold, though - your goddess, Arra! (By: Sonata)

While not nearly as swole as I wanted, the basic design has come through in ways I didn't expect.

Here's the general size and shape of the game, so far.

  • 68 Items, so far.
  • 21 Characters, not counting named extras like shopkeepers.
  • 100 Abilities, so far.
  • 21 status effects, so far .
  • ~40 areas, not including settlements.

I'm currently trying to focus on programming Status Effects, Abilities, and Items. These are all related, and I'm fairly sure Status Effects are ready to get finished. Items are looking good, too. What remains are the Abilities - the hardest part.

The good news is that I've been ready for this one for a while. Ability by Ability, I'll get them done.

I've also been checking in on strategy mechanics and combat mechanics, but the GUI has to come first. To this end, I'm doing R&D to learn how I could do this.

....can someone please explain to me why formatting in itch's text editor is so bad?

I really like the concept art for this one! Maybe use AI art as place holders to get a demo going? I know there is some AI art hate out there, but something just to get the idea across while you search for the right artist.

I personally don't care how placeholders are made but IMO it's better to make a 5-minute MS Paint drawings to avoid confusing people. Generated images too often turn from placeholders to final images used in the final game so players may be skeptical.

Yeah, I'm not doing AI with IOP or TCON.

I'm willing to admit that: That's what's happening to OHYAD right now. It's cheap, consistently "satisfactory", and fast. I'm likely never going to get the money to make original artwork for the game, and I don't know how I feel about asset packs other than very uncomfortable. At least the music is mine!
