Development Report - End of Winter

Greetings! The winter season is on its way out, and after a few months - its time to offer a development update on my progress on Isle of Power.

Since December I've managed to make serious progress towards a prototype. There's progress on all fronts.

Game Stuff:

There's a lot done on the programming end, and I may be ahead of where I think I am. That being said, making sure it WORKS will require the next category. Basically, you can count on Isle of Power being a much better and expanded experience than Dungeon of Power.

Scenes and Presentation:

A lot of things that may already work really require scenes, menus, and visuals to use them and test them. This is where I'd like to spend time soon, as I really do want to know exactly what needs to be done to have the controls and combat that I want to have. This was the stuff TWINE and Sugarcube made easy, but now I have to do it in Ren'Py. Doing this right will make for great strides towards The Crown of Narsine.

Art Stuff:

Locations are getting done, and I'm ready to concept the artwork I'd like for the prototype's locations so there's something to look at. My own skills in Krita are very limited, but going from my sketchbook to Krita and hoping for the best is far cheaper and faster than other options.

I am unsure if I want to retain or commission an artist or studio for this project. I definitely would like portraits of the four chosen, but I've long been searching for something that's better than nothing that's NOT AI, and I just can't find something good.

Music Stuff:

My musical work is progressing, including Isle of Power's soundtrack. I'm a bit unsure of how many systems are actually playable, but I am getting there.

What and When:

I'm sorry to say I don't have a date in mind for prototype completion - the more money I get, the faster I commission artwork and have fewer things cut into my time and sanity. While Dungeon of Power keeps drawing me in and OHYAD seems to be becoming a very nice game in its own right, my goal for OHYAD is within 2024 or by June, and IoP Prototype sometime 2024.
