Development Report - End of Spring

Greetings, everyone! For those not following the other update venues, here's a summary of progress towards the prototype for Isle of Power during the spring:

  • Lots of work on scenes, writing, and characters.
  • Implemented some animations and started settling in on the look and feel of the game. This is a LOT of GUI work, and a lot of RenPy-related work. The game WILL look much better than the overwhelming majority of RenPy games out there.
  • Some musical work, including some basic themes for the game. This will definitely accelerate, as I've made a significant investment in my music-making capabilities!
  • There are now 25 planned combat encounters for the game. The prototype will have about 6.
  • There are about 30 individual characters planned for the game. The prototype will feature 8 of them.
  • I'm spending time planning a variety of events/hazards/challenges, but I want to focus on events that all characters should have in common

Despite how disruptive spring has been and how far it set me back - I can say there's been progress, and that I'm ready to enter summer with purpose. I hope the next year is very productive.

I cannot give any estimates for time, right now - but my goals for a prototype will require the main quest (up to a point), combat, and simulation working to a minimum standard. The prototype will be free, but its release will be a make or break moment. Real Artwork is very, very expensive.
