Development Progress - Fall 2024

A little early, but I'm providing a development update now because I expect life to get crazy and I expect myself to be stuck on a few things before I have more to show off.

Since Summer, I've been hard at work with both Isle of Power and The Crown of Narsine - bouncing all progress straight to this game.

Big pieces of progress include:

  • Quest/Journal System - Capable of independently tracking tasks and providing contextual updates WITHOUT relying on scripting. This was a big upgrade from the Skyrim-like single-variable tracking I had originally implemented, and fits a game like this a lot better.
  • World Setting - I did a lot of work on the world setting and I have yet even more to do. This will be a very big game, even if I'm confining it to a single continent of the world. In The Crown of Narsine, you will be supporting the love of your life as your story intertwines with hers.
  • Combat - One way or another, Combat will be important to both games. I've made some strides with the pieces to make combat work, but I'm stuck on a few things to make combat in RenPy look and feel better than it usually does. The Crown of Narsine's combat will be fundamentally different, but the presentation/GUI stuff will still be needed.
  • RenPy Stuff - As mentioned above, I want this to be a Good RenPy game, at least as good as I can make it by myself and lacking art skills. That means I've been focusing on anything that makes the VN experience look and feel good, if not stand out from the rest.

As I move from Fall into Winter, there may be a large gap in between updates, but this is just one of those times where I have a lot of work to do before having anything to show for it. Your support matters a lot to me, and minus some blockers and real life troubles, getting these two games to prototype/demo IS something I want to accomplish.
