Isle of Power - Early Development

It just occurred to me that there should be a devblog here explaining what's generally going on now that this project is public! Whoops!

Early development is happening. This is a mixture of many tasks, which is always the most fun part of starting work on a project. A flurry of activities for the scatterbrained, unfocused indie GameDev

Among these wonderful early activities:

  • Adapting mechanics from Dungeon of Power.
  • All sorts of Ren'Py related setup and customization.
  • Images - placeholders and icons and buttons and GUI stuff!
  • Data structures and ADTs for all mechanics
  • Actual game mechanics.
  • Scenario planning and writing.
  • Character Specifications, notes, and plans.
  • Implementing all the data and game related information.
  • Rebalancing the game
  • Porting, recycling, adapting, and creating new and recent content work into the game.
  • Scenes, notes, and comments for artwork and mechanics.

And, since this is the first DevBlog post for this game, let me talk about the vitals for everyone:

The Roadmap:

The roadmap will be working hard to finish Everything up to the end of the first Main Quest and then allow freeplay in the available areas. This will require maintaining a demo branch, but it will all will function similarly to my roadmap and release plans for The Crown of Narsine

Early Access Prototype Release (Coming when it's ready to be torn apart):

  • The first tier area, complete with events.
  • The Four Chosen - Placeholder dialogue but complete options.
  • Growing and stat progression.
  • No custom screens, just menus.
  • No reputation (except individual?)
  • Placeholder art - framing and sketches?

This will basically become the Release-Day Demo, minus any changes that require me to update it.

Final Features and Stuffs:

  • 15-20 Characters.
  • 26-30 Areas to explore
  • Soft Power and Reputations
  • Strategy and Simulation.
  • Combat, Items, Status effects, etc.
  • Quests, Chats, Naughty And Lewd Stuff, and even normal scenes!
  • Endings for all characters, usually more than one.
  • Defeat is not the end! See this contest through to the end!
  • Conquest and Submission all around.
  • It's anyone's game. Be careful! Or not.

A very ambitious game. I believe I can do all this, though. What helps is...well, help. Money helps. Artwork helps. Support and feedback help. I really do think that this will be a good game - Lewd or not. Since taking the big step forward into doing this, It's become even more important to me to see it through and make the best games I can make.
